May 30, 2008Thanks, Springfield!
Big headaches and bigger smiles around our office this morning are dead giveaways that our 20 Under 30 bash last night was a success. Thank you to everyone who came—including every single one of our 20 Under 30, and a goodly amount of past winners. It was great to reconnect. Also, thank you to Highland Springs for a great space and food, our sponsors for making it a true party, Fotsch and McClain from Power 96.5 for spicing up the awards presentation (in a good way) and to our event-planning team for doing what they do so well. We'll be back with some actual, you know, content later today. /rummages for Tylenol Matt Lemmon, editor Read more »Posted on Friday, May 30, 2008 | Permalink | Comments (0) |

May 27, 2008Your Tuesday blog roundup
What to read while gently reminding your boss that it is, in fact, Tuesday, and you always come in late on Tuesday. • Springfield one of the 10 Worst Places to Live? Really, BestLife Magazine? We can think of at least 10 cities in rural Virginia we'd rather live in much less, and those were just the ones with McDonald's. Life of Jason Also, Jason talks to the Heer's developer about the recent Park Central Square delay. Things are still hunky-dory... for now. Life of Jason • The blogosphere is the last festering... May 23, 2008Park Central Square? Turns out it might be "historic" or something...
Sorry for burying the Set List (you can read it here), but this came into our inbox just as we were about to take off for the weekend. The City of Springfield has announced that the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office has ruled that the center of Park Central Square is a site eligible for consideration to be listed on the national historic register. The designation throws all sorts of red tape into the way of developers, who were, by contract, aiming to begin Phase I of the Park Central Square renovation—the biggest chunk of which was an overhaul of Park Central Square proper—by August 1. The upshot: Phase II is now obsensibly Phase I, and the City will seek to begin... Read more » Posted on Friday, May 23, 2008 | Permalink | Comments (1) |

May 23, 2008So that David Cook guy? We know him
Well, one of us does. Heather Blue, an advertising designer for 417 Magazine, has been bugging us to let her write about growing up with American Idol contestant David Cook ever since he made the show's finals back in February. For one reason or another, we kept putting her off. Then the dude won, the first time since Carrie Underwood weighed more than 100 pounds that the most talented contestant has actually been victorious. And we realized, hey--it's pretty bad ass that she is actually friends with this guy. So Heather gets her moment to shine (complete with photos of a teenage David at her birthday party) after the jump Matt Lemmon, editor

May 22, 200847 mpg, without a hybrid? How the...
A co-worker turned us on to this concept of "hyper driving", so we Googled it. Turns out how you drive makes as big a difference as what you drive. This blog explains the concept and has some good tips—we're going to give it a try and see how they work. We filled up this morning at $3.69 a gallon. When you're paying more for 20 miles of gasoline than you do for most friends' birthday presents (so we give packages of water balloons, what?), it's time to do something.
