June 30, 2008Fate Looms: Reviewing Wanted
It's been a while since we did one of these. Two things you should know. • I haven't seen but two movies in the theater for the entirety 2008, so far missing out on a couple of flicks I was very excited about, including No Country For Old Men and Indiana Jones. • I am not one of those people totally enamored with Angelina Jolie. She's a comely lass, but I've seen less drooling carrying a pan of bacon through a shelter for undernourished dogs. Then why, in God's name, would I choose a beautiful Sunday evening to go see Wanted? Well, some good friends invited me and I'm susceptible to peer pressure. Find out what I think of slo-mo bullets, Secret Societies and the such, after the jump.... Read more » Posted on Monday, June 30, 2008 | Permalink | Comments (0) |

June 30, 2008Your Monday blog roundup
What to read while speculating just how much extra they paid Angelina for that full-on butt shot in Wanted. • Christine Daues is preggers again. Congrats! Maybe she'll celebrate by once again taking the Cardinals on-field gig in the dead of summer. And maybe not. Chatter • Well Fed Head, harbinger of • Tokyo Drift Barbie. June 26, 2008Tour of Missouri: Part Deux
The Tour of Missouri is (officially) returning to Springfield on Tuesday, September 9. The Queen City will once again host the second stage of the statewide* cycling competition, which will begin in Clinton and end at the intersection of Trafficway and Kimbrough, near the Mediacom Ice Park. The Stage 2 features a few changes—instead of following 160 through Willard, the race will cut through the town and take Greene County AB south. It will again enter Springfield on Division Street, this time bypassing Commercial Street (due to streetscape work, the PR says) and heading south on Jefferson for a finishing circuit around downtown. Overall, the race is not much different from last year's inaugural Tour. The biggest change is the starting point—St. Joseph.... June 24, 2008Best. Letter. To. The. Editor. Ever.
We don't usually truck with spam or e-mail craziness, but since this came to us (well, actually sister mag 417 Magazine) via 417mag.com's manual, online "submit a story idea" form, we don't mind sharing. What's it about? Pick the most mind-boggling topic you can possibly think of, add some famous clevage, a long-retired German head of state and a threat of FBI inquiry. Then you might be scratching the surface. Maybe. Read the zaniness, after the jump. [Begin e-mail] A user has just submitted a story idea. Please review the data below. June 23, 2008SSLYBY making indie inroads in LA
Former staff writer Evan Fisk, the lone, unpaid member in GO Magazine's West Coast bureau (and literally, we make him work out of a smallish chest of drawers), tells us Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin's "Modern Mystery," off the new album, Pershing, is getting some pretty significant spinnage on LA's top indie rock station. Says Evan: "They're playing SSLYBY's "Modern Mystery" on the biggest and best Indie Rock station in L.A., Indie 103.1. (Rolling Stone magazine named Indie 103.1 the best station in the country last year. You can listen to it under the "Alternative" tab on your iTunes radio list.) June 23, 2008Your Monday blog roundup
What to read while lamenting the fact that you refused to pony up for those George Carlin tickets when he came to Hammons Hall last year. • Lots of new bits from Ron Davis over at Chatter (just in time to make our Gripe look silly). Anywho, this is the best of the bunch. Chatter • Fat Jack's take on The Incredible Hulk. Fat Jack's Erratic Rants • We don't hit it often enough, but the Complaints Department is a funny, funny blog. Ask around—we think you'll find that this weekend is the one in which everyone charges his or her batteries, kickin' it at home or with the fam in anticipation of a (in some cases) four-day holiday weekend that will feature much sun and golden-clearish liquid.
