The Set List is pleased to meet'cha

Welcome to the weekend. This one's name is Friday. That's one's Saturday, and that super-short little guy over there with the Jesuit cross is Sunday. We'd like for you to make their acquaintance, because they're seriously the most fun chaps you'll ever meet. Except that Monday bastard around the corner. He's cranky.

Yes, we're feeling sily this afternoon. Read on.

Friday

John D. Hale Band at The Outland Ballroom, Cover TBA, 9 p.m.
The former Snorty Horse regulars take the stage tonight at the Ballroom. This is one of the best shows of a chill Friday downtown. We'll take it.

The Skinny Improv Mainstage Show, $10-$12, 7:30 and 10:15 pm.
If it's been a while since you've seen the Skinny team, head to Park Central East tonight. Actually, you should go even if you've been there every weekend since they opened, 'cause the shows are never the same. Improv is funny like that.

Madahoochi at Patton Alley Pub, Cover TBA, 9 p.m.
This St. Louis band is a Springfield regular, and they've most recently been spotted at Patton Alley. They're the backing band for Spookie Daly Pride, and specialize in reggae, which you probably already knew. It's a good show. Check it out.

Saturday

Filthy Thirds, Dark Alleys, Vag. Massacre at The Outland Ballroom, Cover TBA, 9 p.m.
The Ballroom is the concert bomb this weekend, as the elusive Filthy Thirds, the Dark Alleys and Vag. Massacre (what's the Vag.? Vagina? Vagabond?) play upstairs. Get there early, rock hard.

"Icebreaker" at Mediacom Ice Park, $20-$50, 7 p.m.
This first-of-its-kind MMA event in Springfield will feature Vegas-style lighting, video replay, dancing girls, and a championship bout between two guys with nicknames like "The Punisher" and "The Throttler" (not sure that's actually one). Lots of local people in the cage will ensure some rowdy patrons, so you probably want to check it out.

Moonlight Bike Ride at the Discovery Center, $10-$15, 9:30 p.m.
It's become a tradition: The Discovery Center's annual late-August bike ride. Families are the target, and you can ride either 7- or 14-mile loops, with pancakes from Village Inn awaiting you at the end. Get there between 8 and 9 for registration.

Sunday

Art Bentley at Springfield Brewing Company, Free, 9 p.m.
Art plays his weekly gig at Brew Co. Were it any different, we're pretty the world would have stopped turning.

Springfield Cardinals vs. Arkansas, $5.50-$25.50, 6:10 p.m.
The Springfield Cardinals are back in town for their final homstand of the year, though at press time they were only a game out of first in the Texas League North, which would mean a second straight season of playoff baseball at Hammons Field. Come root on the Cards for their last(?) Sunday night home game of the year.

'Till next week!
