Firefall cannot be blamed for jokes about Springfield. Yes, it’s usually hot. Yes, it’s usually full of sweaty people and incorrigible children. Yes, it’s non-alcoholic. But when the lights go down, and the concerts crank up, and the skydivers float from the sky, and when the Springfield Symphony begins to play, and when the beautiful colors begin to bloom in the sky, it’s totally worth it. This year’s pre-fireworks entertainment includes sets by headliners Josh Gracin (6 p.m.) and Johnny Lee (8 p.m.), preceded by local faves like C-Club, Thirst ‘n’ Howl, M-Dock and others. Other can’t-miss moments include the skydivers at 4:15 p.m. and the crowd sing-a-long of “God Bless America” at 9:20. The Concert in the Sky, featuring the music of the Symphony, begins at 9:30. But if we still haven’t convinced you, the fireworks will be televised on KOLR 10.
