News & Notes

More on Tiffany Christopher Going Solo

“The only thing I do is this project,” Tiffany Christopher says. It used to be a reference to her work with the Tiffany Christopher Band, but no more. Christopher dismissed the group in May to go it alone, a move she says came from both public demand and her own desire to control her music. “I don’t feel comfortable being a jam band,” she says. Since leaving the jamming behind, Christopher says she has been working on a five-song EP. The rough acoustic guitar parts are already recorded, she says. Look for a finished product possibly in late fall, although Christopher says there’s no hurry.

Nathan P. Murphy’s Going Smoke-Free

Murphy’s owner Bob Martin met two weeks ago with representatives from Smoke-Free America and the American Lung Association. The goal: to have the bar and music club smoke-free by July 27 for the 10-year high school class reunion of Martin's daughter, Kaileigh, on July 28. Murphy's manager Wanda Plumb says the smoke-filled air was one of Kaileigh's biggest complaints about coming to the club in the past, so it seemed appropriate to start fresh in time for her arrival. Work began on Murphy's last night to begin the thorough cleaning needed to be certified. Plumb says no regular business nights will be lost in the process.

Jeb Venable Update

Remember our local bass player-turned-touring red dirt country star, Jeb Venable? He’s still on the road with Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses, which just signed a contract with Lost Highway Records. Lost Highway is home to artists such as Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams. The group’s first album on the label will be released in late August and was produced by former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford.
