Outside Stuff: Olympus Stylus 720SW
Taking pictures while skiing or camping can be a risky venture. Cameras are expensive and the elements often aren’t the best for electronics that get dropped or get wet easily. Enter the Olympus Stylus 720SW ($379.99 at Lawrence Photo and Video, 2550 S. Campbell Ave., 417-883-8300). This 7.1-megapixel camera is shockproof (if dropped from 5 feet or less) and waterproof (in less than 10 feet of water). There are 28 shooting modes; all the standards, plus several underwater options. And it’s got digital image stabilization so the fish don’t look blurry when you snap a photo. The great part is that although it’s waterproof, you can use it just like a regular camera when you’re on dry land (99 percent of the time). Just remember to slip on the attachable wrist loop if you take it to the lake. You don’t want this camera sleeping with the fishes.
