Hypes and Gripes

• Gripes to The Dugout, the basement of a sports bar below Remmington’s Downtown, for leaving a huge group of 30 Mizzou fans out in the cold, literally, the night of the MU-Kansas football game. The group—which included a GO staffer—banged on the door 10 minutes after it was supposed to open, only to be told by a man who emerged from Remmington’s that the Dugout didn’t get the game’s station. Um, the game was on ABC, a national network, which we’re pretty sure we can get on our retinas if we stick some tinfoil on top of our heads. Either The Dugout is done, the TV is broken or management simply doesn’t want 30 drinkers running up happy-football-fan tabs.

Hypes to everyone who turned out for the Turkey Trot, including GO art director Kari Engel and family, on a frozen Thanksgiving morning. You, friends, have genitals of pure brass, every last one of you. Sure, editor Matt Lemmon has run a marathon, but the mere thought of a 10K in 20-degree weather? It makes him want to crawl in the oven.

Hypes to the few downtown restaurants that will deliver food to employees at other businesses. Big Whiskey’s and Kai, we’ve heard, are two of the only ones who will do it. We’re sure we’ve missed someone, though, so let us know and we’ll take them off the list o’ badness.

Hypes to Kum & Go for allowing motorists to air up their tires for free, and Gripes to other local gas station chains that charge 75 cents or so for the same service. Seriously, people. Forget for a second that you’re CHARGING FOR AIR; sometimes people just don’t have three quarters when they desperately need air in their tires. It’s the equivalent of someone walking in to your store with a bloodied hand and you charging them to use the first-aid kit.

• On the subject of stupid charges, Gripes to stores *coughOldNavy* asking $1.50 for gift boxes. Is the economy really that bad?

Just wondering if anyone else saw "Will you F**K me Staci" written in cups on the ped overpass?
